Good Monday to you! While no one ever wants to be in a disaster, it is always a good idea to be prepared for emergencies. It is wise to have 3 months to a year supply of food on hand in case you lose your job. It is smart to have money saved for times when the refrigerator breaks.
I have been working on our 72 hour kits for my hubby and I. This is a natural disaster type of kit. We can pick this backpack and these buckets up on a moment’s notice and live fairly comfortably for three days.
To be honest, I hope we will never use these. But they are ready just in case. Here is what we have inside:
Isn’t that fantastic? I will give you the list at the end of this post if you want some ideas to get your kits started:)
I really like using the buckets that you can buy at your local hardware store to hold evertything. I have added a cushioned top on it so it can be used for a stool as well. The cushion can also be a pillow if needed. How cool is that?!
My husband cut out some wood in a circle that fit the top. I had some old foam that I made a cover for out of old upholstery fabric I had in my stash. I stapled over the wood around the bottom. My husband screwed it onto the lid. PERFECT!!
Almost everything fit nicely in the buckets. A small backpack fit the rest.
I am so glad that I have these kits done. They are sitting on a shelf in my basement just waiting there in case we may need them someday.
Here is the list of supplies I put in our kits. Please feel free to print out as many of these as you need for you and your family:)
And here is my bullet journal page where I brain stormed to get everything organized:)
I hope you are inspired to stock up on a kit for you and your family. I would love to hear about it if you do:)
Have a super SWEET day!
That is a wonderful idea! My sister lives in tornado ally and really needs one in case of electricity outage etc.

Great post Tracy! I try to stock up on things in case of hurricanes or blizzards. A “go bag/bucket” is a great idea just in case there’s a need to evacuate. And giving these as gifts is a fantastic idea!!

A great emergency kit Tracy! We have buckets filled with enough calories to feed four people for a week, along with some run and go kits like yours. The Atlas Blizzard was our town’s wake up call. Parts of town had no electric for 5-7 days, and out of town it was 4-6 weeks! Made everyone realize how unprepared they were, both resources and thinking wise! Great and necessary post!

It made national news. We hadn’t had a killing frost yet, and it started with rain, then freezing rain, then 30? Inches of snow. It happened the week before the ranchers were going to sell, and they lost their sale calves and all the pregnant mamas. It never did get down past 30 degrees, but lines were down from all the trees falling. We thought the monster cottonwood in our neighbor’s yard might fall on our house, but it held, miraculously. Crazy, crazy storm!

Oh how sad! Storms like that are so scary. Farming is so dependent on the weather. I’m glad the tree didn’t fall. I live in a Pecan grove and totally understand the fear of falling branches.

I would risk it for pecans!!! As for the storm, the outpouring of support from across the country was breathtaking. Fellow farmers loaded trailers and drove to SD with replacement stock, money came from all over, it was the most amazing thing.

Great list! Love the idea of turning it into a comfy stool too!! We made one too based on what the American Red Cross suggests! https://servprotustin.wordpress.com/2017/06/07/what-you-should-keep-in-your-emergency-safety-kit/
