Finally! I have had a bit of time to focus on my Down the Rabbit Hole Quilt by Sarah Fielke. Yea!! I joined this QAL late so I am quite a bit behind the other quilters. But maybe I will catch up before the end.
I am on month 5 of this QAL. I was surprised that the little paper pieced houses took me so long, but they did. Maybe the fact that there were 40 of these little cottages added in to the mix.
I really did enjoy making them though. Each house is different and has tiny little windows. Aren’t they cute? The roofs were paper pieced.
Paper piecing isn’t hard, it just takes patience. I made sure to cut my fabric pieces larger than I thought I would need. In fact, after a few houses, I just cut one large 6” strip the width of the fabric out of the sky color. I sewed straight to the strip and trimmed after. For some reason it didn’t feel like I was wasting as much fabric with this method. I think I will play a bit more with this technique and do a tutorial on it because it really was MUCH easier😊. Easier is always better!
In the corners I appliquéd these happy designs that look like the sun, but they are not.
These little 6.5” sunshine blocks will join together in the next round with more of the same blocks to make a sun flower. CUTE!
I finished the round with a fun black and print border. I LOVE IT!
I just want to stop all of my other WIPs and stay Down the Rabbit Hole, but I won’t. I will come back to the real world. I don’t like having too many irons in the fire, especially around the holidays.
Thank you for stopping by and reading my blog today. I hope your day is SWEET!
This is my absolute favorite quilt you have done yet! I can’t wait to see the sunflowers and the rest!

You’ll be surprised how you will start moving along again now those houses are done. I got stalled on what to do for them and jumped ahead to start on the Sunflowers and Dresden plate wedges. It helped me decide how to build the houses. Labour day weekend I hadn’t sewn my individual houses together. But by Halloween’s Eve I had everything including the leaping bunnies and tulips and ready for step 10. Busy cutting circles and hearts and planning the flowers. Onto the sitting bunnies! Come and check out my blog!

The black border and roofs really work with this. It just pulls it all together. Beautiful job Tracy, this will be a stunner with the additional borders.

I’m so glad you agree with me on the black. I’m finding myself drawn to quilts with black in them. It’s funny how styles change through the years😊
