Hit the Brakes! —HQAL Progress

Here I am, waiting for a rental car in Florida. I have a brief moment to report my progress for the Hand Quilt Along sponsored by Kathy @ Sewing Etc.

I really prepared to productively use my waiting time in the airport.

We had a LONG delay but I didn’t mind because I had my sewing to fill the time. It was fun explaining to fellow travelers what I was doing:)

I was also able to put in a few hours of stitching on the flight.

We spent a lovely day in NY. We were in awe of the beauty of Lady Liberty.

We were able to go up into the pedestal and see the spiral staircase inside. We were having such a good time when everything came to a screeching halt.

I was looking up at the amazing architecture and should have been looking at my feet and tripped and fell! I broke my wrist! Really?!!

I can count my blessings though. It is my left wrist so I can maneuver the thread and needle very very slowly. Who knew I used my left hand so much?

I have found that with the help of a table I can still stitch a bit. I’m thankful for small blessings !

I am happy with the first half of my panel.

That little bee is so SWEET! Well, I am afraid that I will be a slow sewer for the next few weeks, but times like this really make me grateful for two working hands. I am so glad I didn’t break my leg or hit my head. Life is so very very good!!

  1. I first thought it was your right wrist, but then I realised it was a reflection… What a disaster THAT would have been, not just for the sewing (bad enough) but for general living. I’ve broken my left wrist twice, and I know even a leftie is bad enough. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope it hasn’t put too much of a blight on your trip. Stay safe, now!

  6. Oh no, Tracy! I am so sorry about your wrist. {{Hugs}} I hope you are able to enjoy your trip and that you get your rental car soon. I can’t believe you are able or even want to sew at all. ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. Oh man, on your wrist 😦 Hopefully you will heal up quickly. But way to go by keeping on stitching! Slow and steady wins the race. I still can’t believe Lady Liberty tripped you 😉

  9. OH my goodness! I hope that the pain has eased and that you are able to rest comfortably. You are handling it well, just take it easy, the quilt will wait for you! Enjoy some warm sunshine and heal up!

  10. What a terrible accident for you! I’m glad nothing but your wrist was injured, that is awful enough. We don’t realize just how much we use our non-dominate hand until we can’t. I hope the pain is minimal and you enjoy the enforced “slow”. I have it on good authority that your rabbits aren’t prolific breeders!!

  11. Now THERE’s a tender mercy – that it was only your wrist! So I’m guessing you didn’t make it all the way to the top. Do they have a medic there on site, or did you have to rush away to find one? An unforgettable trip. I haven’t been in NYC since the late 70s, but I don’t expect most things have changed, outside of the WTC. I’m wondering why you had to wait so long for a rental car. What a nice vacation that includes both NYC and Florida!

    1. Spoken like a true sister Susan! It was amazing how kind and helpful everyone was in NYC. I have learned that people are truly good. I went to an Urgent Care center. They had me wrapped up in a little over an hour. It’s a much slower trip, but the tender mercies are all around me. ❤️❤️

  13. I’m sorry to hear about your wrist tracy, and hope that you continue to get any medical care you need while you are away. I’m so glad that you can look back on and appreciate all the stitching you have done already, just try not to overdo things with your poorly hand. Xx

    1. Thank you so much Kerry! I think you hit the nail on the head with being in unfamiliar locations. I have learned that people are so kind and good wherever you are. This has not been the vacation I imagined, but it will definitely be one that I remember:)!
