I love to crochet and have been sadly missing my crochet time. I have been so busy with quilting and life that I have not picked up a crochet hook in months. Well, I am happy to report that I am stitching again. Yea!!
When I saw this beautiful Grinda MAL shawl designed by Tatsiana @Lila Bjorn Crochet, I knew I had to make one, or two.
I have not crocheted anything for my mother in a very long time. I thought I would make a Shawl for her for Christmas. I ordered my Scheepjes Whirl and Whirlette yarn on Etsy. It is just the perfect color for her. I know she will love it:)
The pattern is free and is written in 5 parts. It did not take me too long to stitch up part # 1. I always find the first few inches of any crochet project to be the trickiest.
I like the lacey stitch and softness of the cotton blend yarn. I am getting used to using such thin yarn. It has been a while since I have had to manage a string yarn.
I’m excited to watch as the color blends to pink on part 2:)
I think each part will be divided by this raised ridge stitch. Isn’t it pretty?:)
Here is my completed part 1 of the Grinda MAL Shawl. I am going to absolutely love this!
I hope you are having a wonderful day filled with a creative project or two. Life is so so SWEET!
Until next time,
This looks love
Y, Tracy! I’ve been tempted by this pattern, but I have too many projects on the go, and not a lot of ambition to complete any of them right now, lol. I love the colours you’ve chosen!

Hi Tracy! I don’t crochet but that yarn would surely tempt me if I were. My sister was a huge crocheter, and that photo you shared with the hook really reminds me of her. She always had something to work on with her. Now that it’s a little cooler, I’ll bet you’ll enjoy doing that in the evenings. I look forward to seeing this project as it progresses. Your Mom will LOVE it – it’s beautiful. ~smile~ Roseanne

Thank you Roseanne! I have been crocheting since middle school. I find it vey relaxing and stress relieving. I will definitely enjoy the cooler weather, but even though 90 degrees is cooler, it is still hot around my house. It’s all good though. I’m sure my mom will wear this shawl even if it is too hot for it. That’s what moms do, right? Lol: —Tracy

Love the colours, love the pattern, love the thought and care that’s going into this gift for your mother! Almost makes me wish I could crochet (properly)…

Thank you Kate! I really like this brand of yarn. It is supposed to very very gradually change color. I’m excited to see it work up. Aren’t we glad for fellow bloggers who let us enjoy their talents vicariously? Have a wonderful day Kate!❤️❤️

Thanks Kathy! I agree:). It has been too long. You are so SWEET to remember my wrist. I’m so grateful it was my left wrist. My dominant hand is still quite healthy. I am so blessed❤️❤️ Have a lovely evening:)

This looks fab. I bought a whirl and whirlette a couple of weeks ago with the idea of making this shawl too… I just haven’t started yet as I’ve been working on my spirits of life shawl while I’m motivated!

That would have been cool… But you’d have overtaken me long ago! I’ve had such a long break from spirits given that I started it when it was first released!

Wonderful pattern and you’ve taken back to crochet like a duck to water. The colors you choose are so rich and warm. I just finished a scarf in the Tunisian Lace stitch which is perfect for these cotton blend yarns when you want something airy. Does your have a prominent stitch with a name? I can see the popcorn stitch in there which gives it great detail and depth…what a wonderful project! ~ Sharon

Thank you so much Sharon! I am going to have to go and check out the Tunisian lace stitch. That sounds beautiful! There are popcorn, lace, and front loop crochet so far. It is a pretty simple project really. I am excited to try many different cakes if this brand. It is turning out so pretty:). Thank you again😊❤️❤️

That looks like fun! I’m checking it out, because it’s so beautiful. I take it your mom doesn’t read your blog? I bought 3 skeins of sale baby yarn the other day, thinking I, too, would get back into crochet! We’ll see what happens. LOL

Come join the fun Susan! My mother has macular degeneration and is mostly blind so she doesn’t read my blog. The computer is probably over her technical ability even if she could see. lol! ❤️❤️

I looked at it and got the pattern. I’m going to see how the baby blanket goes. I haven’t done this in a long time, because of wrist issues, so we’ll see how it does. Thanks for the link, though, as it’s a gorgeous shawl. I’m sorry about your mom’s vision, that must be very trying for her. Does she live near you?

I live a few hours away. She lives in Tucson and I am in the Gila Valley. My dad is with her and my brother is there too. Thank you for asking 😊. I am excited for you to be back on the hook too! I hope your wrist will cooperate:)❤️❤️
