A Feast of Fall Colors

I live in Arizona. We have very hot summers, and the rest of the year is warm to cool . But along with that warm weather, you get very little season change. The mountains have a scant bit of color, but as far as seasons go, the desert blooms in the spring and the sun burns in the summer. That’s about it.

I have seen post cards and calendars of real Fall colored trees in sleepy New England towns, but I have really never experienced the beauty of crisp yellow, orange, and red leaves hanging on trees and falling to the streets. I have seen them now and can only say, “Wow! Wow! Wow!”

We went on the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas to New York, Boston, Portland, Bar Harbor, St. John’s, and Halifax. It was a great way to see the Fall colors.

I will not be giving a review on the Anthem of the Seas, but if you want a review, you can read about it here. I will be sharing a taste of Fall in the North East with just a touch of other fun things to do in the area. So sit back, relax, and join me as we feast on the colors of Autumn:) —

New York-

Oh, the city in the Fall is beautiful!

Leaves were on the branches but there were a few on the ground as well

We saw Lady Liberty, Federal Hall, the 911 Memorial and watched Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway .

Boston—

The history, the churches, the cemeteries, and fall colors all made for a spectacular walking tour!

Everywhere I turned I found spectacular colors. The yellows were as golden as the sun.

The reds were brilliantly a blaze.

We followed the Freedom Trail around the city. It is a red brick line that leads from one historical sight to another.

The resting places of Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and the Franklin family made them seem more alive than just a story in a history book.

One if by land . Two if by sea. Paul Revere’s ride still echoes here.

Portland Maine–

We didn’t do a whole lot here because it was Sunday so we went to a local church meeting at The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints.

We did drive around for a bit after the service to see the leaves and a pretty lighthouse .

Bar Harbor Maine—

To really see the colors of Fall, Acadia Nationa Park in Bar Harbor ME was our absolute favorite!

Everywhere we looked was a beautiful landscape of water and color

Reds and yellows In abundance

Bar Harbor also had lovely lovely seascapes

This garden area was a real treat.

And don’t forget the Lobster Rolls! Yum!!

St Johns–

There were four cruise ships in the harbor on the day we stopped here. Talk about crazy! Every taxi, bus, tour, rental car, and Uber was taken. We walked by the water, looked at the nearby churches. And just returned to the ship for a massage. Lol!

Halifax, Nova Scotia CA. —

We went to Peggy’s Cove which is an old fishing village. It was a testament to the strength of the old fishing people who have lived here over the ages

The crowning jewel was the lighthouse that was standing boldly on the rocks warning ships of the dangers that lay nearby.

And what would a trip to a fishing village be without fish and chips?

It was a wonderful trip! And just because we had a few hours before our flight, we ran over to Morristown New Jersey to see where George Washington stayed during the winter

  2. We’re having a feast of luscious fall colors up here in the Pacific Northwest. It doesn’t always happen that way, but more often than not I’d say. Glad you had a chance to experience some of the Northeast’s color. I especially love the picture of the waves crashing against the rocks of the shoreline. Had to chuckle at the way you capitalized the name of our church. 😉 Good job!

  3. An experience you will never forget. I am so happy, no, overjoyed you ‘lived’ the colors, sights, sounds, smells of a New England fall. I grew up on the east coast in NY and New England was a yearly destination for the change of color growing up. Your photo’s were amazing and while I love living in Great Northwest now – you made me long for my childhood 🙂 Hugs Sharon

    1. Oh Sharon! – what a lucky girl you were:). People come to AZ and always say they miss the seasons. I always thought of the long cold winters and said, “why?” But now I know. I think a yearly color destination would be a spectacular idea!❤️❤️

  5. The colors are amazing!! God created a beautiful, diverse world for us. I love the waves crashing on the rocks. That lobster roll made me hungry. Cruising is fabulous way to see lots of places in a short time without living out of your suitcase and hours of driving. Did you know that every lighthouse in the United States is unique? Either in shape or color, every one is different. The things you learn when teaching 5th grade!!

It was less than $100 including next day shipping!!

      1. We were off to a good start, Tracy 🍁 But then we had a ‘snow event’, and a few below-freezing nights…and that was the end of it 😞 But – they tried, so we have a few pretty trees to enjoy 🤩

  9. I was in Boston last year with daughter and SIL to drop oldest granddaughter off to college. We walked that same Freedom Trail, went in that same cemetery and my daughter looked at the grave opposite a Paul Revere and saw a John Hurd who died after the revolutionary war. That is her father’s and m6 husband’s name, although his relatives came from a Omaha. Love your beautiful fall color pictures!

    1. Hi Karrin! What a wonderful experience to find family names in that historic cemetery! I really do think seeing the actual grave stone brings them back to life or at least solidified that they really existed.   10. I so enjoyed this post and seeing all the photos! Glad you got to enjoy the Fall colors in New England. I grew up in NY and spent plenty of time in New England states and yes Autumn is beautiful but then you get WINTER! And one bite of New England winter and you would be so happy to be in AZ 🙂

  11. You were at Tempe Wicke house? Fabulous! My early married years were spent 10 miles from there, and I worked in Morristown. It is a beautiful area, even as built up as it’s become. You did have a lovely fall to view. Ours was slightly below average with some beautiful moments. It looks like your cruise was fabulous and you really hit some great high spots.
