Baby Blankets Always Win! HQAL

Hello friends! Three weeks have gone by and it is time to share my Hand Quilt Along progress again. I wish I could say that I have finished another 20 or so English Paper Pieced blocks for my Quatro Color Quilt, but I cant.

I have finished four. Yep, that’s it.

Well, I also organized the rest of my papers into groups . I think I have enough to finish the blocks. I hope I hope I hope! I’m keeping my fingers crossed:)

Now, why have I finished so few? Well, my evening sewing has taken a turn to baby crochet, yea!! My daughter in law is expecting baby number two at the end of February. She asked for a green blanket, but didn’t pick a pattern so I am free to let my creative juices flow. And oh, the flow!

I have decided on a highly textured sensory blanket that my SWEET new little grand baby can put his little fingers through.

The yarn is Soft Secret Yarn Bee in Avocado and is so so soft. I tried the actual “baby yarns” but the light texture just didn’t match the sensory theme.

I am designing this little blanket as I go and plan to write the pattern when I am finished. It is a Textured Stripey Sensory Blanket.

I am just loving all of the fun stitches. Its hard not to run my hands over and over it too!

  1. It’s always great to get the pattern piece cut, ready and organized and yes ‘hope’ there’s the right amount 🙂 Love the green sensory baby blanket – it’s really turning out gorgeous. Thanks for the tip on the soft secret yarn bee – sounds like the perfect yarn for a fabulous baby blanket. I need to check this out (I’m doing one right now in the popcorn stitch) Congratulations Grandma…Feb is here and the end is all to quickly approaching!

  9. Love your sensory blanket!!! Babies really like that…so do adults!! I have made some baby “tummy-time” quilts using fabrics with different textures as well as pieces of ribbon with different textures, backed with Minky fabric. Perfect for infants on the floor as well as car seats and strollers. Your afghan will be gorgeous when it is finished!

    The green of your blanket is lovely and a sensory blanket would come in useful for other people – not just babies – apparently Alzheimers sufferers can benefit as well as some people on the autism spectrum and, I’m sure, many more. So, a pattern would be useful plus, it’s beautiful!

  12. Four squares and the organization is a LOT of progress! It really feels good to get things organized and then just be able to sew. I love the sensory blanket!! The green is so pretty.

  13. Lovely quilting and blanket too. I have a feeling I am in a parallel universe – I have ongoing quilt projects and knitting projects. I recently started a baby blanket for a new baby due this May, ditto I began a mini machine quilted playmat for the same baby, and revisited my ongoing hand quilting project just this weekend. Have to admit the handquilting was popped back into storage as it’s a little overwhelming and not so time-pressing!

    1. Lol! Hi Tina! Yes, we are in a parallel universe:). I think we as women share a creative bond just by our nature. I love that we sacrifice for our children and grandchildren. Isn’t there something in wrapping a little grandchild in a blanket made with love in every stitch? Thank you so much for your comment this morning.
