Scrap Happy Christmas Presents

I just love Christmas sewing, don’t you? I have a friend who lives far away and loves cats, modern fabrics, and potholders. It was fun trying to think of a gift that she would like. I think I may have come close with these cute gifts:)

I know I am quite late for this months scrap happy event with Kate @ Tall Tales From Chiconia, but better late than never I guess! These cute potholders and towel were made from scraps in my sewing room. Love it!!

I must admit when I was at the second pink round of these folded star potholders, I just wanted to throw them in the trash bin. They were so loud and obnoxious.

I’m glad I persevered though. The last round and especially the black binding really calmed them down:). I think that’s good advice for most projects- just keep going. It will probably turn out great!

I enjoyed how the top stitching stabilized the folded fabric and also gave an added dimension to the block. It looks good on the back as well.

If you want to make a few of these potholders yourself, I used the Plum Easy pattern that is available on multiple sites on the internet.

And what would potholders be without a matching towel? I fell in love with this free pattern on YouTube by Notches Sewing because of the lack of buttons or Velcro. It just folds on top of itself to hang over a handle. I like how streamlined it looks.

Her directions were great and the finish project looks just like the pictures. Win win👍

Well, Christmas is coming and I still have a few more items to sew and quite a bit of baking to do. Tis the season! I hope you all are enjoying your Christmas preparations and taking a moment or two to sit back and listen to Christmas music and look at the lights on the tree.

Please feel free to comment or follow along. I would love to hear how your Christmas creations are coming along:)

  1. These pot holders are so neat – in both senses of the word. I love the colours you’ve used and your cat loving friend is going to be deIighted with her gift. I must get round to making some myself as I think they might be less cumbersome than oven gloves. Actually, they might be a good stocking filler present for my husband as he’s always complaining about the oven gloves and he’s the principle cook in our house. Thanks for the inspiration Tracey

  2. I do love Christmas sewing and creating 🙂 It’s just joyful and fun. These are award winning potholders and that cat towel – fabulous. Your friend is going to love them. I am finishing up with a few mini quilt Christmas tree ornaments to add to packages. Merry Christmas and happy healthy coming year to you and your family Tracy.
