This summer was a crazy time for me and my family. My mother passed away in June and my father-in-law passed away in July. They were both older. My mom was blind and deaf and my father-in-law had advanced dementia. Their passing gave me joy for each of them. My mom can see and my father-in-law has his sense of humor back. I know I will see them again. Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ gives such meaning and comfort to this earthly life. Because of Him, death loses. What a Victory!!
I’m sorry- I don’t know why I am sharing this . I really just wanted to share with you about my summer trip. I guess memories of this summer are all intertwined with these two experiences.
Oh well- After my mother left us, my daughter and her friend decided to go with me on a get away trip to forget about trials for a while. They are so cute! My daughter knew that my dear husband would never want to join me on a trip to Sister’s Oregon for their outdoor quilt show, so we left the kids, hopped on a plane and headed out, It was GREAT!! And just what we needed. Quilting is a medicine for the soul that only those who quilt can understand:)
Maybe I should work on that…. “Quilting stitches up the best and hardest memories of life”… Or
“Sometimes a needle and thread mends more than just our scrapes and cuts“ … or
“ A bit of time with my needle and thread, can cure many fears and heartaches”… or
“When life gives you sorrow- go to a quilt show”
Ok— enough already! Really, I am on one today! Lol!! let’s get going to the whole reason for this post.. the Sister’s Quilt Show.
We had sew sew sew much fun:)! We landed in Seattle because my daughter had never been there and visited Pikes Market and some friends who live there
We enjoyed the flowers, fruit and the yummy macaroni and cheese. Don’t miss it if you ever get up that direction! Really, it’s the best ever!!
We then went to Portland and stopped for a few hours to check it out. We loved the Powell Bookstore. It is a must see for sure:)
There were so many many many books! I don’t think we ever made it out of the children’s section. The books were beautiful:)
We then had to try the homemade noodles just a short walk around the corner……
Oh My Goodness!!! Yum!! Yum yum!! This was my favorite meal on the trip. I want to go back just to get more noodles!
After lunch, we hopped back in the car and headed through the mountains to Sister’s Oregon. I had no idea we would be driving by the most majestic mountain volcano- Mt. Hood. It was Gorgeous! Really, these pictures don’t even come close to doing it justice…
We stayed at a cute little boutique hotel just outside of Sisters called Wayfarer. It was adorable and had a wonderful getaway on the roof. It was SWEET:)
In the morning, we got up early and headed to the show. I hope you are in the mood for some yummy quilt eye candy, because here we go!!
The entire downtown district of Sisters celebrates the annual quilt show. All of the stores have quilts outside. The quilts line all of the streets and side roads. Tourists roam the streets to admire the beauty.
Here are a few of my favorites
This one had beads on it that made it sparkle
The girls had to have a best friend picture with this quilt…
They are so cute!! We really liked how this quilt in a quilt looked
And a few more…. Who can choose just a few?!
They were all amazing— BUT if I had to choose just one quilt, the grand champion of quilts – my favorite was this one—
The way that flag seemed to fly on the quilt was masterful! The eagle, the stars and the waves…. It was perfect!!
At the end of the afternoon, we had made a friend who invited us to her alpaca farm for a tour. How fun is that?! I think I want an alpaca now:)…
There was even a friendly little alpaca who wanted to give us a kiss!
We had an wonderful time! Did you know that Sister’s Oregon was named after three volcano mountains that are the guardians of the area? I didn’t. But now I do and it is beautiful.
We really enjoyed our trip to Sister’s Quilt Show. If you have joined me all the way to the end, I’m sure you know that I would never go to a quilting retreat without a prize for me to enjoy back home. I bought a kit at a the Stitching Post.
This quilt is called Solarium .
Stay tuned for the finished quilt reveal!
Thank you for stopping by today. I hope your day is happy:)

I’m sorry to hear about your family dying but I love that you believe the same as I after one passes. Your trip to Sisters sounded amazing. Isn’t it great when someone realizes what you need. Then does the best for you. I’m glad you went. I have always wanted to attend the Sisters show.

I’m so glad you got to ALL those places in one trip! Fran Regos and I went to Sister’s several times, including the 25th anniversary show. We did the whole week before the show, staying 20 miles away in Bend at a fabulous place we loved. Friends of ours rented a house together each summer.
I hope you got to see the fish market where they toss the fish back and forth, and good for you for finding both Powell’s and the noodles! There’s an underground tour in there, too.
I’m just so happy you got to experience Sister’s Quilt Show! Next time, go for the whole week. =)
