Thailand Quilt Finished!

I am pleased to say that my Thailand quilts, that were only going to take a week or so to make , are finally finished. They only took a month or so. Lol!

Isn’t this just so pretty? The bright colors are so reminiscent of my trip. And after fighting with the bias diamonds, now I am really glad I opted for that design.

I didn’t have a pattern. I just cut diamonds and bordered them with strips. I fought with lining them up to get nice matching points , and the borders wanted to stretch as well. But in the end I won the fight ! Lol:)!

I like how the larger diamonds didn’t cut the fabric away so the beautiful fabric design still showed through.

I added a luscious deep teal flannel to the back and used a very thick gold thread to the bobbin. I love how well the pattern shows on the back.

I bound the quilts with a fun black and white stripe that adds a little pop to the edges.

So now it is time to fold these memories up, and give one away to my friend. What will I do with my quilt? I think it is going to be my take along travel quilt. It is soft and cuddly which is just perfect for relaxing after a long day of adventures.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. I appreciate your encouragement and questions. You do make my day SWEET indeed!

  1. Gorgeous fabrics and the diamonds were the perfect choice to let them shine!! Love the teal backing and the striped binding – just the right way to finish these quilts!! What kind of thread did you use in the bobbin? I always use Bottom Line which is 60wt. When I’m going to be working with bias edges, I starch the dickens out of the fabric…like 5-6 “really wet with spray starch, press, repeat” until it is almost as stiff as paper. I was taught that in a OBW class back in 2011 and it really works well! No steam in the iron on those, to preserve the stiff.

    1. Thank you Claire! The Gold thread was a definite must with a quilt from Thailand. I am amazed at really how nice everything turned out, especially after the frustration level of the construction process. I guess the moral is— don’t ever give up on a quilt! lol:)❤️❤️

  2. It’s fantastic! *swoon* You designed a masterpiece, imo. The diamonds, colors and prints are lovely; and the border and the gold thread are superb finishing touches. It was worth all of the time and effort.

  4. Hi Tracy! Every single thing about this quilt is just perfect and it screams Thailand. The colors are so vibrant . . . and the large triangles let those pretty prints shine. Your quilting pattern with GOLD thread – fabulous, as is the striped binding. Perfecto, my friend. You hit it out of the ballpark (it IS Spring Training now, finally). This will always make you remember a special trip of a lifetime. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Thank you Roseanne!! I am also really pleased with the gold thread. It captures Thailand really well. I am just waiting for this phone to allow textures and smells to come through too. It is just a soft and comfy quilt:). Have a great day my friend!❤️❤️
