A Woods Themed Wedding Cake

I was asked to make a cake for Tori and Brayden’s wedding. I love decorating beautiful wedding cakes. Weddings are such a happy, SWEET time for family and friends:). I am always so honored to be a part of the celebration ❤️

Tori decided on a Mountain Woodsy theme and had lit pine trees with pine freshener all around. It was so cute! I decorated the cake with small evergreen branches and pine cones to match.

img_2042It is so interesting to me to note that the last few cakes I have made have all been the same general style. The brides all want buttercream with a heavy texture on them.

Tori started by wanting an all round cake, but when I mentioned this to her she opted for the square bottom to make her cake a bit more unique.

Isn’t it pretty? The stand was perfect for this cake. It was tall and grand like a stately tree. The cake was a pumpkin cake with a cinnamon cream cheese filling. Yum! It tasted so warm and fallish :)❤️❤️

It was a wonderful day. I am always so happy to be a part of someone’s special day.

I Love Weddings!

I was honored to make my nephew’s wedding cake this weekend.  

It was fun to make the gum paste roses.  I was surprised when so many people asked me if they were real!



My new niece wanted lemon cake with soft lemon curd filling for the top and bottom tiers.  My nephew wanted German chocolate with the yummy coconut filling for the middle tier.  I frosted the cake with a Swiss Meringue buttercream .  Yum!  


Aren’t they just beautiful?!  I love the happy smiles of a newly married couple cutting their wedding cake. They are so SWEET:)!

It’s a Wedding Cake Day! 

I love wedding cake days!  Colton and Aubrey chose this beautiful design with red roses and heavily layered buttercream.


It is funny how for years it has been fondant, fondant, and more fondant.  I’m glad to see the change.  I like the texture of the loosely laid frosting.


I liked the lighted food bar that gave an added dimension to the room and cake:)


No matter how pretty the cake looks, if it doesn’t taste good it is not a success.  This cake was deep chocolate with a cream cheese center.  Yum!

Wedding Cake Blues

This isn’t really a sad or “blue” cake, it is  a beautiful, happy, blue cake.  It wasn’t a full tiered wedding cake though,  it was only a topper for a cupcake stand.  The cupcakes arrived late, so I wasn’t able to get pictures of the entire display. So maybe it was a little “blue” after all…

  I was able to snap a few pictures of the beautiful blue roses though.  My friend asked me if I would make the cake topper a few months ago.  I of course said yes.  I got out my cake decorating apron and the ingredients and then realized I didn’t even know the colors!I quickly called and was told, Tiffany Blue.  Ooohh,  pretty!!  I immediately started making roses.  Aren’t they pretty?

The cake was a soft white cake with a lemon curd filling.  My husband just went on and on about how good it tasted:). He is so SWEET!

It is always a happy day when I get to make a cake, and this was no exception:)

It’s a Wedding Cake Day! – Chelsy and Jaron’s Gluten Free Cake

My friend’s daughter got married today and I was asked to make her cake.  Yea!  I really like making wedding cakes:)I love to see what ideas the brides come up with for their design.  Chelsy wanted a hand painted cake with large strokes of gold.She wanted a small bottom layer with two tall upper layers.  I think it adds a fun dimension to it:)This was the first Gluten free cake I have ever made.  Chelsy brought me some Namaste chocolate cake mixes that she can eat.  I was a bit timid to give them a try, but was very pleasantly surprised.  It tasted delicious!  I especially liked it paired with my homemade fresh raspberry jam filling. SWEET!!

I enjoyed making the pearls, and ruffles, and painting the swirls.  It was a very fun, beautiful cake:)

A Part of Your World Crazy Wedding 

It has been a crazy, but wonderful weekend.  My niece got married and I helped decorate and made the cake.  Those things are usually not a big deal, but she wanted her wedding at the LDS Gilbert, AZ  Temple which meant we had to load everything on a trailer and haul it 2.5 hours away.   I had to decorate the cake the day of the wedding at the church building.  Really, it was not a problem, it just made the weekend crazy:)!

Another crazy thing about this wedding, was that my sister had asked our dear  friend to help her with the decorations, and I was just going to do the cake.   But our friend’s husband had a heart attack the day before we were going to set up and of course was going to be with him during his surgery!  His surgery went fine and looks like he will be up and going soon in no time, thank goodness:) Our thoughts and prayers are with him.

So the day before the set up, I was scrambling around gathering and loading everything in my wedding closet and borrowing from others to take over and help fill in where needed.  It’s what family does, right? I think the added crazy part was that we are still jet lagged from our cruise.  We are just running on fumes:)! 

 It all turned out beautiful though, as always.  It’s a wedding, you really can’t go wrong:)

The cake itself turned out lovely except for the topper.  I had grand hopes of it being the main focus, but it kind of got lost in the background.  I even painted it gold to hopefully add some contrast, but it still seemed to disappear.  Oh well, chalk it up to crazy,  it still looked lovely.

I liked the Under the Sea theme.  It was fun adding the graham cracker sand and shells to the cake. I used buttercream and fondant shells over red velvet, chocolate Oreo, and key lime cakes.  Like I said, it’s been a crazy wedding, lol:)!


When it all adds up, it’s all about family.  I am so happy for my beautiful niece and new nephew.  Congratulations to them!!

Moroccan Wedding Cake

Good Monday Morning!  For this week’s Memorable Monday I would like to share my daughter, Tassy’s, wedding cake. Isn’t it fun?!

Tassy, is a bright, happy, colorful person:). She is a shiny, sparkly  spot in our family.  Her wedding very much reflected her out going smiley personality.   Her wonderful husband is used to her love of bright colors.  It’s a good thing because color is who she is, from her gorgeous red hair to her love of abstract art.

Her wedding was  a colorful event filled with the bold bright colors of the color wheel.  Her cake was a four layered Moroccan styled cake with layers of red velvet with a cheese cake layer, chocolate with chocolate ganache, and lemon for the groom.


I hand painted the fondant and pressed and painted the paisley decorations.  My husband made the colorful stand. There were tea lights under the stand and under the middle stand as well.

They really loved the cake.  And it was a joy to make it for them.  I made so many things  for their wedding, but when I started the cake, I said ,”Ah, now I am in my comfort zone!:)”

Weslie’s Wedding Cake –Ruffles and Pearls

Good Monday Morning!!  This weekend was my niece’s wedding.  Yea!  I was happy to make her cake:).

The top tier was a coconut cake with a coconut cream filling.  The bottom tier was a lemon cake with a peach mango glaze and a lemon curd filling.  Yum!


The beads on the sides were silver sixlet candies that I gently pushed into the butter cream frosting underneath.  Let me tell you what, that took patience!  One- little -candy at a time….


And then the ruffles were added one-little-fondant-ruffle at a time.  It wasn’t hard, it just took longer than I expected.  When I finished late at night, I had been looking at it so long that I really thought it was ugly.  But as a little sleep always changes things, in the morning it was gorgeous again:)!



Small Miracles—We had a little tender mercy miracle for the reception.  As we were setting up outside, the wind started to really blow.  The tablecloths and boxes were blowing away.  We had to place chairs over the tables and just go inside and hope it would calm down. We waited a few hours.   
About an hour before the reception it calmed down and we went out to hurry and decorate.  Then it started to rain. Ugh!   In Arizona you don’t pray for rain to stop.  It is a blessing for every little drop.  But I must admit that we all said a little prayer of gratitude for the rain, but please temper the weather just around the reception.

We went out and continued with faith to set up in the rain.  15 minutes before the reception started, the rain quit and a rainbow appeared in the sky!  

We scrambled to finish decorating and bring out the food, decorations, and cake while the guests were arriving.  They all understood though.   The weather was cool and perfect the rest of the night.  It was a small miracle!  Our prayers were heard and answered:)

Karina’s Wedding Cake

I haven’t made a one layer wedding cake in, well, ever.  My daughter’s friend Karina gets married tomorrow and she chose this very simple one layer cake.   She is going to use it as the topper of a cupcake display.  Easy easy for me, yea!:)

Because this cake was so simple, I decided to to add some gum paste dahlia flowers on top to add a little elegance to the display.   I really thought that I would just knock them out rather quickly, but the leaves were so so so fragile and were constantly breaking as they were drying.  It took me most of the day yesterday to make these three and one more that completely broke apart into little leaves!  I am glad these ones stayed together.  Only a  few petals fell off that I gently glued back in with icing.  It was worth it though.  They are BEAUTIFUL !

She wanted stripes along the side of the cake. I am not the best at perfectly straight piping or painting.  The lines inevitably shake or lean low and then the whole cake looks like it is leaning. So I have learned from my mistakes and shortcomings and used ribbon for the stripes.   I am glad I did because they ended up straight and even.   I made some gum paste pearls for the bottom border and painted them with gold luster dust.

So very very pretty!  The inside is a  lemon cake with a lemon vanilla buttercream filling.  I told you it was simple.

Here it is at the reception. It is absolutely beautiful on the cupcake stand!

Their “Naked” Wedding Cake!

This has been a WONDERFUL weekend!   My oldest son married his darling sweetheart, Nicole:).  It took a lot of planning to decorate a wedding so far from our Arizona home, but it was a joy to do.   I had so much fun making their very unique rock climbing themed, “naked” wedding cake. A naked cake is a cake where there is no frosting covering the sides of the cake.  It is very “earthy”.  I made all of the layers in their favorite oatmeal with coconut pecan filling.  (I will devote a post just to that delicious cake and give the recipe as well- it really is the best cake ever!)

Naked Wedding Cake – Climbing to the Top!

Nicole loves the outdoors and trees. She really wanted a natural cake that reflected her natural personality. And since they both enjoy , no are passionate about, rock climbing, it seemed only fitting to make their cake look like a flower covered mountain that they are ascending to the top of:)

Fantastic Rock Climbing Wedding Cake Topper

I found this fantastic rock climbing cake topper on Etsy from Cake Topper Connection.  It was absolutely PERFECT!!  Isn’t it just so cute to see the couple climbing the cake and reaching the top?  I just fell in love:)!

I have been working the past few weeks on the beautiful deep red and cream gum paste roses.  The gum paste started out as a bright, chinese red.  I added coco powder and blue food coloring to get this lovely, earthy, deep red rose.  I placed them in an egg carton under the back seat to transport them all the way to Ogden, UT .  They made it, yea!  Here they are cutting this masterpiece, and of course feeding each other a bite — lol:)
