I am so excited to say that I am finally finished with my MYSTERY QUILT ALONG quilt from last quarter! Woo hoo! Better late than never, right?
My wrist cast came off a bit sooner than I expected and I am feeling great!! I was able to sew these blocks together in no time. YEA! I am so thankful for good doctors and for all of your kind words and concern. Thank you, thank you!
I love how these Purse Strings blocks turned out with the MYSTERY Fluffer Nutter fabric as the background. I mean really, look how cute this is!
SWEET! But I don’t think the name “Purse Strings” fits this quilt. I am going to call my quilt the “It’s a Mystery” Quilt. Now that’s more like it!
I always like to wash and block my throw quilts after quilting. It gives the quilt that soft, crinkly, cuddly feeling that says “Relax! Come and snuggle. You deserve it”
Blocking — The way I block my quilts is by washing and drying them as usual.
When you take your warm quilt out of the drier, it will be wrinkly and puffy along with a wavy kind of look. Take it to your ironing board and give it a nice press with a steam iron. It will flatten and smooth right out.
This picture shows the difference between blocked and not blocked quilts.
The left side of the quilt is not blocked and is more wrinkly and wavy, while the right side has been blocked and has a lovely flat crinkle to it. — I hope you can see the difference. The real quilt seems to show the blocking better than my picture.
I am very pleased with this Terra Cotta backing fabric. I think it really matches everything so well. I had a harder time choosing the binding, but I am pleased with this navy blue print. When in doubt, go with the complimentary color:)
I had a tricky time taking these pictures because of our new puppy named Tally. He seemed to think I made this quilt just for him! Lol!:). “Think again Tally! This quilt is not for you!”
This was such a fun MYSTERY QUILT! I also loved seeing what beautiful blocks and quilts the other quilters made. Every one was so unique!
MYSTERY QUILT ALONG #2 is going on right now, but it’s not too late to join in the fun.
Cindy @In a Stitch Quilting and I are the hosts of the MYSTERY QUILT ALONG. It is different from other quilt alongs in that all of the quilters use the same focus fabric, and the quilter decides on the pattern and ways to use the fabric.
This quarter’s MYSTERY focus fabric is from Connecting Threads and is called Tea Flowers (Tomato) #91329. Just go to the fabric section and scroll down.
I sew, so, sew enjoy finding sneaky ways to use the MYSTERY fabric. Here is a peak at where I am using a bit of my MYSTERY fabric. How fun is that?!
This is how the MYSTERY works–
I am always happy to quilt along with so many fun and talented quilters. We would LOVE to have you join in the fun too!

This is my first finish of this quarter’s Finish Along. Yea!!
It’s a lovely and super-snuggly quilt! I love the colours you’ve used, and the terracotta backing is perfect. I think my favourite fabric of the lot is that floral with the dark navy background, combined with the pinkish-red and dark blues. I’m so glad your arm is well enough to let you sew properly again 🙂

There are so many things to comment on here. First. Tally is a cutie patootie…is his name short for Tallahassee? He looks like a doodle of some kind. Second. I also press my quilts right out of the dryer first time only, because let’s face it, I’m too lazy to be doing that every time. Third, I like the sneaky Peak of the applique Block you chose for the new QAL for and Fourth…I think I want to play on this mystery QAL. I just finished one with my Guild, so looking for another project. Will read directions further to find our where to get Fabric and how much to buy.

Woo Hoo Velda! Welcome to the MYSTERY! I’m so excited to be Quilting Along with you😊. I will add your name to the list. —You are right! This little Talladega puppy is a Schnoodle. We are having so much fun with him.:). ——I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who feels a good blocking press is necessary for a new quilt. Great quilts and great people, that’s you!❤️❤️

Hi me again, I went to Connecting Threads to get the fabric… it couldn’t find it. Is it available anywhere else? If not can I substitute another very nearly the same red?

Hello again Velda:). I just went to Connecting Threads. It doesn’t pull up under the search, but if you go to the fabric listing and scroll down just a few scrolls it is there. Let me know if you can or can’t find it. 😊

Velda,
Did you find it?? It is on sale, too – at least it is in an email I received, just for the weekend. I can forward you the link if you’re having issues.

Hi Tracy,
YAY to having the cast off. Doesn’t it feel weird not having it on – you got used to it! But thank heavens. Tally is SO cute, and yes I think that quilt has been claimed. What a great finish for QAL #1. I just love the quilting on it and it really does look different after being blocked. Sneak peeks on QAL #2 – yippy. ~smile~ Roseanne

Thank you Roseanne! Yes it feels very odd. It is still a bit tender. I am sure that I’ll be working on getting the movement back for weeks or even months. I’m glad you liked the quilt. This is such a loose and fun QAL. I’m so glad we are quilting together!❤️❤️

I’ve never pressed a quilt. I *like* that lovely crinkly look. It’s why I use 100% cotton battings. =) Your quilt turned out gorgeous! I love what you did. I’ll probably have the second one finished and mailed to H2H before I sew the blocks together for the first one!
