It’s Tractor and Truck Time

I am busily cutting and sewing another little boy quilt for another two year old grandson. This little boy loves sitting behind the wheel. He especially loves four-wheelers and tractors. –Quilt challenge accepted!

I like making Buggy Barn quilts. Sadly, they are out of business, but their books can be found online if you really hunt for them.

The technique is quite different in that you trace a large cutting pattern onto freezer paper and then iron it onto the top of a stack of happy fat quarters.

You cut on the lines in the order the book tells you to, and then you put one or two or three fabrics of a certain section under the bottom of the stack.

Next you start to sew the stacks back together again keeping certain edges straight and trimming other edges. The book tells you which edges to match. The instructions are very good:)

When everything is sewn together, the square is pretty wonky, but after trimming down to size, it looks great!

Now it is time for the wheels and buckets. There is a lot of appliqué and not very much time here so I am the using the fusible web appliqué method. Just trace, cut, iron and sew down.

Woo hoo! I’m almost there. I will be finishing all of the wheels and borders in the next few days. Then it will be quilt time. I just need to to keep on truckin’!

It’s a great day!

  1. Hi Tracy! This block turned out so cute – just perfect for a tractor loving two-year-old. That construction method looks very confusing . . . like a variation of paper piecing. I can’t wait to see this all finished. ~smile~ Roseanne
